My daughter has thrown her first tantrum

July 15, 2008 – 9:43 am

If you haven’t experienced this yet, it’s an experience like no other.  Your child is suddenly uncontrollable with arms failing and feet a stomping.  She’s yelling and crying and acting like a crazy person.  So what do you do in this situation?  It’s hard to do, but just ignore her.  The more you try to calm her down and give her attention the longer she will go at it.

Sneaker wars for kids

June 19, 2008 – 11:44 am

Looks like companies are targeting our pocketbooks by using our kids.  They know we are willing to shill out more money for our kids than ourselves.  I can’t remember the last time I bought something nice for myself because I am always buying stuff for our kids.  I guess those geniuses in marketing definitely know us! ; - )

“The toddler segment is more profitable because more sneakers can be sold at full price, unlike those sold in more competitive markets aimed at adults and teens.”

Sample footage from the Panasonic SDR-S150

Since the videos are on youtube, the quality has been degraded a bit.  Because the camera is so small, it is harder to hold steady.  I am learning new ways to hold the camera so it does not shake as much.  The Optical Image Stabilizer (O.I.S.) does not work as well as I would have hoped, but it’s understandable because of it’s size.

  2. Don’t ride your brakes
  3. Go the speed limit (especially at 55 miles per hour which is ideal)

  6. Plan your grocery trips so that you only go once per week
  7. Ask your boss to work from one day a week
  8. Make sure to add STP Gas Treatments every 3000 miles to clean your fuel injectors

So I decided to get the Panasonic SDR-S150

May 16, 2008 – 12:12 pm

After going back and forth deciding between the Canon HF100 and the Panasonic SDR-S150, I decided to get the Panny.  After reading numerous reviews, I went with the Panny for it’s size and even though the video is not HD, it is still pretty good.  I got the camera yesterday and the only thing I was kind of worried about was the video quality from indoor shots.  With my previous Panasonic camera which was Mini-Dv, indoor video shots were dark and grainy, but with the SDR-S150, the video was pretty impressive for standard video.  The Panny is pretty small…small enough to fit in my cargo short pockets comfortably.  The camcorder really feels like it is well made and built to last and is really easy to use.   The biggest gripe I have about this camera is that I can’t connect via usb and take the pictures and videos off the SD card.  I have to plug in the AC Adapter even with a charged battery in it!!  That is kind of ridiculous.  It’s not that big of a deal since I can just use a card reader, but it’s a pretty crappy design flaw.  The only other annoying thing I could find was that the camcorder records in a .MOD file format which no programs will recognize except the software that comes with the camera.  All you have to do is change the file extension to .MPG and you are good to go.  After that, you can edit in Windows Movie Maker or any other program.  Why didn’t Panasonic just use the .MPG extension instead to make it a little more user friendly?  Oh well…the camera was definitely worth the $350 purchase price from Amazon.  I will post some video I have taken with the camcorder after my vacation to Houston to give you guys some examples in a week or so.

The easel also has a sturdy paint tray with cup holders for easy use and clean-up, and another tool tray that holds erasers, chalks, and clips. Four large, colorful clips are included with this easel. Paper rolls can be loaded effortlessly into the holder and a paper cutting edge at the top delivers clean cuts and leaves your artist’s work whole.
