Just another reason you need to monitor your kids online activity

Make sure monitor your child’s Facebook and Myspace page.  That is their online diary and you can pretty much find out everything that is going in their lives.  Some parents think it is wrong to dig into their kids private life, but it’s better than being sorry later.  Trust me on this!!!

So some of you are probably wondering how to get their login information into sites like MySpace and Facebook. I use a program called Surf Spy which secretly records what sites your kids visit, including all login information.  There are many other programs out there, but this one worked pretty good and it’s cheap.  If you have Windows Vista, you can filter certain sites your child surfs to and give them time block of internet time.  These Parental Controls are a great add in and it has been very helpful in my household.  If you do not have windows Vista, check your router for the same kind of  parental controls.  You can also install some firmware called dd-wrt, which is really awesome, but this is definitely for the technically advanced parent.

Now, you may wonder how to check on cell phone messages.  Well, this is a little easier.  Just read their messages when they take a shower or go to sleep.

I remember the days when we passed notes in between classes and that was considered bad!  Please constantly monitor your child’s online and cell phone activity.  You just never know these days.  I hope this post has helped some parents out there. Feel free to email me or ask me any questions and if you have some better solutions, please comment.
